6 Tips for Reducing Belly Fat Fast
You’ve probably seen all the gimmicks that promise sexy abs in only minutes a day. All you have to do is use the latest exercise gadget or take a supplement, and you’ll have a toned tummy. It would be nice if it were that easy. Unfortunately, you can’t zap your spare tire with a magic wand.
The good news is if you lose weight overall, some of it is bound to be belly fat. Everyone carries fat differently and where you first lose weight may depend on your genetics. But for many people, the first place they lose fat is their midsection and belly.
Although you can’t spot reduce, there are things you can do to decrease belly fat and get the midsection you want. With the right combination of diet and exercise, you can trim your tummy.
1. Set realistic goals
If you plan to lose 20 pounds before next month, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Goals should be challenging, but doable.
2. Increase the fiber
Fiber helps you feel full and may prevent you from snacking on unhealthy options, such as cookies, chips, and fried foods.
3. Eat more protein
Make sure you’re eating enough protein. Some studies indicate that people who ate higher levels of protein had less belly fat.
4. Combine cardio with strength training
If you want to lose body fat, you’ll need to take in fewer calories than you burn. Cardio, combined with strength training can help you get rid of belly fat by helping you burn more calories, both while working out and at rest.
5. Work it from all angles
When you do abdominal exercises, be sure to include exercises that work all areas of your tummy. Include exercises that work the lower and upper abs along with your oblique muscles. While you can’t spot reduce your belly fat, building strong core muscles will help give your body a more fit and tapered appearance.
6. Reduce bloat
While it won’t help you cut fat, decreasing bloat will give the appearance of a flatter tummy and it may also boost your motivation to stick to your fitness goals. Have a bit of honeydew, watermelon or pineapple. Pineapple contains an enzyme that helps break down proteins during digestion and decrease bloat. Watermelon and honeydew are diuretics and may decrease water retention. Just don’t go overboard since they also contain sugar. Also, make sure you are well hydrated. If you’re dehydrated, your body thinks it should hang on to all the water it has, so you retain fluids. If you drink up, the opposite happens. Adding a slice of lemon to your water can also help – it’s a natural diuretic.
