For example, ask what certifications a personal trainer has before hiring him or her. Certification does not always translate to being well qualified. Working as a personal trainer is not just about teaching someone how to perform a lunge or dictate how fast to run on the treadmill. It’s about interacting with a client and figuring out how best to help that person meet their goals.
Trainers have different styles. Some are cheerleaders, others are drill sergeants, and some are a combination of both. Think about the style of trainer you prefer. For instance, maybe you need someone who is no-nonsense and believes in a little tough love.
While it’s helpful to be compatible with your trainer, you don’t have to become best buds. But your trainer’s philosophy and style should mesh well with yours.
Cost of a personal trainer
Unless you’re independently wealthy, the cost may also be something you need to consider when you’re hiring a personal trainer. Fortunately, you don’t have to be rich to have a trainer. But it is helpful to decide your budget before committing to a personal training plan.
Keep in mind, charging more does not always mean a trainer is better than someone who charges less. Several factors go into how much a trainer charges. But when it comes to hiring a personal trainer, finding the lowest price probably shouldn’t be the primary factor in your decision.
